Common Questions

What style of golf should we prepare for at Terras da Comporta?

Both Dunas and Torre are routed across native sand dunes and pine forests where ground game options abound. David McLay-Kidd designed Dunas with wide fairways and firm fescue turf, meaning you will often score better with low running shots and bump-and-runs rather than aerial wedge approaches, especially when Atlantic coastal breezes pick up in the afternoon. At Torre, Sergio García's layout requires careful lines off the tee into narrower corridors framed by umbrella pines.

Can we walk, or are buggies recommended for the 36-hole day?

While neither course is strictly walking-only, both Dunas and Torre are designed to be walkable on sand-based terrain. However, Day 2 features 36 holes split between Dunas in the morning and Torre in the afternoon, so reserving a buggy or electric trolley is highly recommended to manage fatigue in the Portuguese sun. Caddies are not mandatory, but club pull carts and buggies are available for hire on site.

How far is Sublime Comporta from the golf courses, and how do transfers work?

Sublime Comporta is located inland among cork oaks in Muda, roughly 15 to 20 minutes by private vehicle from the Terras da Comporta golf complex. Dedicated private transfers are arranged for all golf transfers as well as your arrival and departure runs to and from Lisbon Airport (approximately 75 minutes north). Having planned transfers means you do not need to arrange rental cars or navigate local country roads after a long day on the course.

What is the best time of year to play Dunas and Torre?

The prime golf window in Comporta runs from late March through June, and again from September through early November. During these months, daytime temperatures generally sit in the pleasant 18°C to 24°C (65°F to 75°F) range with minimal rainfall. Mid-summer (July and August) brings significant heat that can make 36-hole days grueling, while winter remains mild but prone to occasional Atlantic rain bands.

Are there strict handicap limits for Dunas and Torre?

Neither course enforces an aggressive handicap ceiling, but McLay-Kidd's Dunas plays firm and fast with penal native sand hazards, making a maximum index of 24 for men and 28 for women a sensible baseline to maintain pace and enjoy the strategic options. Both courses offer multiple tee boxes; selecting the appropriate yardage at Dunas is crucial, as the exposed coastal winds can stretch the layout considerably.

What practice and recovery amenities are available at the resort and courses?

Sublime Comporta provides full recovery amenities tailored for downtime after rounds, including a heated indoor pool, outdoor pool, sauna, and an extensive spa menu featuring sports and deep-tissue recovery treatments. For game prep, Terras da Comporta features top-tier practice grounds, including an expansive grass driving range, short-game areas, and large putting greens mirroring the firm turf conditions found on the courses.
